It can be pretty stressful to receive a piece of paper that says, “You are being sued.” And it might be years after an accident you had been trying to forget about.
If you had insurance at the time of the accident, you probably shouldn’t worry about it too much. After all, this is the reason you have insurance. All you need to do is contact your insurer (the one who was insuring you at the time of the accident) and let them know that you have been served, and follow their instructions from there. In all likelihood, that’s the end of what you have to do.
Sometimes, if the claim looks like it is going to go to trial, you might be required to give evidence – but your insurance company will let you know.
